Tomato and Walla Walla Onion Salad

I bought some beautiful heirloom tomatoes and Walla Walla onions from the farmer’s market the other day.

I wanted to make something that would showcase both flavours so I decided to make a simple marinated salad.

What you need,

3 or 4 heirloom tomatoes, chopped
1 small Walla Walla onion, sliced into half moons
2 tbsp. fresh basil, chopped
2 tbsp. red wine vinegar
2 tbsp. extra virgin olive oil
1 small garlic clove, minced
Salt and Pepper to taste

Whisk together the vinegar, olive oil, garlic and salt and pepper. Gently toss with the tomatoes and onions. Let the salad sit for 15 minutes before serving.

This salad would go wonderfully with just about anything. Fresh summer tomatoes are one of my favourite things so I could eat this salad every day.

The Walla Walla onions are so sweet and mild, they made a perfect addition.
