Steak Pie

This is another Stan classic, (Stan is my Dad in case you are new here).
We always had a freezer full of venison, thanks to my Dad’s favourite past time, hunting, or maybe it is fishing I am not sure, he does a lot of both.

It was his birthday yesterday so I decided to make this Steak Pie in honour of him!

It is simple but so flavourful. You could use beef if you don’t have access to venison.

What you need,

1 deep dish pie crust, with a top (homemade or store bought)
1 lb. of venison, cut into small cubes
Salt/Pepper to taste
1 tsp. Garlic Powder
2-3 tbsp. cold water

Heat the oven to 350 degrees.

Season the cubed meat liberally with salt and pepper and the garlic powder.
Place the season meat into the pie shell, drizzle with the water.

Place the top crust on and pinch the edges well. Cut 2 or 3 slits in the top of the pie crust to allow for venting.

Bake for 45-60 minutes until the crust is well browned and the meat is cooked through.

Remove the pie from the oven and let it sit for 10 minutes, this will allow time for the juices to thicken up.

I served mine with mashed sweet potatoes and roasted beets.
It turned out perfectly, just like Dad’s!

Thanks Dad, for being such a great cook, you have always inspired my culinary adventures. I hope you had a wonderful birthday!!

  1. Oh this is our favorite thing. Well we have fifty favorite things but this one is all star. You did a beautiful job, that pie looks divine. Dad will be proud. How something so simple can taste like heaven, I do not know <3 Your sides look great too! Savanna says a tray of nice oven roasted veggies is a nice side. Too funny. She needs to come cook with you. We also love a fried green tomato or a pickled beet alongside as well. Yummy steak pie. Can't even think about it without feeling like we're all back home again. Thank heavens we have such a great Daddy and that hes an amazing cook. Thanks for another great recipe :)

  2. A note to anyone who does not like wild meat:
Gramma Eva made this pie all the time and always used beef. It is still amazingly mouth watering good and it's a really easy recipe to make that is sure to impress any meat lover. Make one for your husband or brother, father or son. Serve with a good old baked potato and some carrots. Revel in the appreciation you are sure to receive.
