I
just got back from a little holiday. My Dad came out to visit and we took the ferry
over to Port Renfrew on Vancouver Island.
He was going to meet up with some
friends and they were going on a 5 day fishing adventure.
We
stayed over and toured around a bit for a day.
We
went to the Botanical Gardens. It is a big beach area where then tide goes way
out and you can walk out on the rocks and see little tidal pools filled with
interesting creatures. It is very beautiful down there.
We
saw many huge slugs on the trail leading down to the beach.
Here
are a few shots of the Botanical Garden beach area.
I
should have worn better shoes, I had my flip flops on and walking on slippery
wet rocks was a bit of a challenge.
We were even lucky enough to see an Elk.
Dad
and his buddies had a great first day of fishing; they caught Spring and Coho
Salmon, Halibut and a bunch of rock fish. Then to top it off on the way back
into the dock their guide pulled his dungeness crab trap and there were like 10
crabs in it!!
So
we cooked some fresh salmon and all those beautiful crabs, plus
some new baby potatoes for dinner.
It
was insane how good it all was. Can’t get any fresher seafood than that!
We
were also lucky enough to take home the 80lbs of fish the guys caught on the
first day.
Now
my little freezer is packed with tons of fish!!
I am going to have to start looking for new fish recipes, cause we are
going to be eating it once a week for sure!
Thanks
so much Dad for all the fish!! You are
the best! I hope the rest of his trip goes as well as the first day!
Love
it!
Jen
