Puppy Chow

I warn you, this stuff is ADDICTIVE! I love it! It is my favorite Christmas treat.

You could make it any time of year, but you shouldn’t. I always end up making 2 batches, at least, because I scarf the first batch before it is even cooled and ready to package up!

What you need,

2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
2 cup peanut butter
5 tbsp. butter
1 tsp. vanilla
6 cups Crispix cereal
2-3 cups icing sugar

Over medium heat in a large heavy bottomed pot, melt the chocolate chips, peanut butter, butter and vanilla together.  Meanwhile put the cereal in a VERY large bowl. Pour the melted chocolate over the cereal and very gently toss to coat, you want to be gentle here so you don’t crush all the cereal bits!
I usually divide the icing sugar between 2 large zip top bags. Roll down the tops so it is easier to scoop the gooey cereal into it.
Scoop half the cereal mix into each zip top bag. Gently shake, roll and toss the bags until all the cereal is coated in the icing sugar.

I line my counter with wax paper, and then I pour the coated cereal onto it and spread it out into a single layer, make sure each piece is well coated. Let it sit for 30 minutes or so or until it is cooled and you can handle it.

Place it your mouth... I mean in an air tight container. I usually keep half out and put the other half in the freezer, it freezes well and that way I probably won’t eat it all in one go!!

LOVE IT!

Jen

  3. Puppy Chow is one of my favorite snacks! I haven't made it in ages. I just added the cereal to my grocery list for next week. This is perfect for our New Years Eve snacking! Thanks for the reminder.

  4. I don't recommend this recipe. My boyfriend and I tried to make it over Christmas, we did it step by step as it says and we came out with a big clump of broken cereal with to much peanut butter.

  5. Hi Candace, I am sorry this recipe didn't work out for you. I make multiple batches of puppy chow every year using this recipe and it always works out fine. It does get a little messy and you do have to be very gentle when you are coating the cereal. Hopefully you will give it another try, it really is worth the effort!
