A Handy Culinary Tip and a Cautionary Tale

I hate cooking bacon, it is messy and smelly and just not a good experience all round. I can never get it to cook evenly, it’s burnt or not crispy enough and it always curls up.

When I heard a rumor you could cook bacon in the oven I was skeptical, wouldn’t it splatter all over the place, and wouldn’t it burn??

I finally decided to try it anyway. Here is the method I used:

Line a baking sheet with tin foil, then put the bacon in a single layer on the pan.

Put the pan on the middle rack of the oven and turn it to 400 degrees. Bake for 15-17 minutes, depending on how crisp you like it.

Remove from the oven and using tongs remove the bacon to a paper towel lined plate.

Scarf!

It turned out perfectly! NO splatters, it stayed nice and flat it was perfectly crispy, no bad fatty parts were left, it was awesome.

I don’t’ think I will ever cook bacon the old way again.

I wish I had a picture to show you of my lovely oven baked bacon, but I don’t.

Here is the cautionary part of this tale.

When I was pulling the baking sheet out of the oven I guess I yanked a little too hard and all of the molten hot bacon grease sloshed over the side of the pan onto my left forearm.

OH DEAR!! It is nasty.

Don’t’ be like me; be very careful with the hot grease. I had to go to the doctor and get some special antibiotic cream and a tetanus shot!

Regardless of my crazy burn, I still think this is the best way to cook bacon, give it a try!

JUST BE CAREFUL!!

What are you all doing this weekend? I think I am going to put up my Christmas Tree, it just feels like the right thing to do!

Happy Friday! Have a great weekend.

Jen
